Every now and then a car comes along that sparks imagination and competition, and the iconic Porsche 911 has done that and more by serving as the springboard for the creation of the world's largest and fastest one-make series.
In just its second year of existence, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin series has over 20 cars competing in a schedule with nine events that features stops at Canada’s most famous race tracks. With a plethora of new teams and drivers for the 2012 season, the series has become the fastest growing single-make series in North America.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin Series features three distinct classes of semi-professional drivers racing head to head on-track at the same time. The premier division is the Platinum Cup, which features the more powerful 2010-2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. The Gold Cup, which includes 2005 ½ - 2009 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars is the middle division, while the third division is the Silver Cup for 2002 – 2005 ½ 911 Porsches.
Featuring a multitude of colorful driver personalities competing with varying experience levels, competition in 2012 has been fierce. Jean-Frederic Laberge and Etienne Borgeat have scored victories in Platinum Cup for GT Racing and SpeedMerchants, while Shaun McKaigue with Fiorano Racing and Bruce Gregory have found victory lane in the Gold Cup Division. Robert Seitz in his 6th Gear Racing entry has swept all the events in the Silver Cup Division.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Canada cars' next scheduled stop is the Mobil 1 Presents the Grand Prix of Mosport July 19-22. Racing at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the Platinum, Gold and Silver Cup cars will compete in two races.
