Esteemed clientele and media gathered yesterday evening at the Ritz Carlton Toronto to witness the Canadian launch of Italy's most exclusive supercar, the Pagani Huayra (pronounced wai-rah). Being sold in limited numbers through Pfaff McLaren in Woodbridge, the company did not release information on units to be sold or a Canadian selling price, but more than likely it will sell at the US list price of $1.3 million.

Named after the South American god of wind, the Huayra is a culmination of five years of design evolving from the equally exotic Zonda, produced from 1999 until this year. The car makes extensive use of cutting edge technology and lightweight carbon fibre throughout the vehicle chassis and components, most evident in the clear coat carbon fibre body and 96 kg seven-speed Xtrac tranmission, which controls the hand-built 700 horsepower twin-turbo Mercedes AMG engine and 737 lb-ft of torque. The Huayra tops out at a mind-boggling speed of 370 km/h.

Aside from the powerplant, the Huayra is built entirely in-house. From the carbon components to the vastly intricate interior, each piece is custom-built specifically for each car. The version in attendance at the Ritz hotel was completed in July of this year.
