The Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) appears to have missed yesterday’s deadline for 2014 Formula One race applications.
The sanctioning body for the proposed Grand Prix race in Sochi were told by FIA officials they must prove extenuating circumstances for missing the July 31 cutoff, otherwise the race – tentatively scheduled for October 19 next year – will not take place.
This comes after F1 events were held last week to preview the new Sochi Olympic park and the 5.872-km street circuit. An announcement was also made yesterday that the Indian GP was moved to 2015, presumably to make way for Russia's first F1 race. Stay tuned for more information and formal announcement of the race’s status.
