After months of speculation, BMW confirmed its new 2 Series coupe as the replacement for the successful 1 Series in 2014.
The rear-wheel drive compact is noticeably bigger than its predecessor but smaller than the 3 and 4 Series, utilizing all-new style characteristics that make it distinctly different than the previous 1 Series. Starting with the longer doors and roofline, the new 2 Series is 108 mm longer than the 1 Series and 72 mm longer than the outgoing 1 Series Coupe. It is also 26 mm wider, while the track also grows by 41 mm in the front and 43 mm in the rear. The wheelbase has also been extended by 30 mm.
Powering the car is the 184 hp four-cylinder, while an available 326 hp inline six will provide the 2 Series with astonishingly quick times for the compact, helped in part by a more efficient aerodynamics package overall.
The new 2 Series is expected to hit showrooms in Spring 2014, with pricing to be announced later this year.
