In the first of two day’s auctions here in Pebble Beach, California, prices realized for coveted Ferraris crossing the block served as yet another indication that the passion for the Prancing Horse continues to build at a fever pitch. At RM Auctions, the highly anticipated “star lot” of the weekend, the show-stopping 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S N.A.R.T. Spider, shattered perhaps even expectations as it set the new world record for a vintage Ferrari sold at auction, commanding $25 Million USD with proceeds benefiting charity. Also at RM, the 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” used for the movie “The Gumball Rally” (in 1976) realized $1.5 Million USD, also an impressive result for the iconic 12-Cylinder.

IMG 8900The pace was equally strong at Gooding & Company, where the 1974 Ferrari 246 GT “Dino” captured $360,000 USD, continuing the upwards charge of values for this forward-thinking Berlinetta that created the footprint for an era of modern Ferrari legends which today includes the 458 Italia and Spider. The 1957 Ferrari 250 GT 14-Louver Berlinetta, the perfect combination of romance, style and performance, rightfully earned $8,600,000 USD. The victories and dominance of Scuderia Ferrari were celebrated, too, as the 2002 Ferrari F2002 Formula 1 car sold for $2,050,000 USD.

The action continues tomorrow, both at the auction houses and on the fairways of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, with a full recap of highlights to continue.
