Honda and the Toronto Blue Jays celebrate Canada Day at Rogers Centre in Support Of Make-A-Wish Canada

Yesterday, spirited Toronto Blue Jays fans packed the sold out Rogers Centre for Canada Day presented by Honda Canada. Professional IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe helped kick off the celebrations by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the game against Milwaukee.

Adding to the excitement of yesterday’s pre-game activities was the presentation of a $15,000 cheque to Make-A-Wish Canada. Made possible by Honda Canada, its partners the Ontario Honda Dealers Association and the Toronto Blue Jays, the donation signaled the beginning of a major fundraising effort that takes place every year during the Honda Indy Toronto.

“Along with millions of people across the country today, Honda is proud to celebrate what it means to be Canadian,” said Barry Holt, Vice President of Finance, Honda Canada Inc. “It gives us great pleasure to support an organization like Make-A-Wish Canada, which has had such a profound impact on the lives of so many Canadian families.”

“The kind generosity of our partners allows Make-A-Wish to continue our mission to grant the wishes of children living with life-threatening medical conditions,” said Jennifer Ritter, CEO, Make-A-Wish Canada.

Since 2010, Honda Canada and the Ontario Honda Dealers Association (OHDA) have helped raise more than $300,000 in support of Make-A-Wish Canada. For the fifth consecutive year, the OHDA will sponsor Fan Friday at the Honda Indy Toronto on July 18, covering the cost of admission for all who attend. While admission is free, attendees will be encouraged to make donations to support Make-A-Wish.

Fans take home great Honda prizes
Three lucky Toronto Blue Jays fans left yesterday’s game with Honda Canada prizes giving them even more reason to celebrate the day. Stephanie Wetherup from London, Ontario won a brand new Canadian-made 2014 Honda Civic Coupe EX (automatic) while Heather Martin of Drayton, Ontario and Peter Ngo of Toronto, Ontario took home Honda lawnmowers.
