According to IndyCar medical director Dr. Michael Olinger, Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing's Charlie Kimball suffered a fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand on Thursday during the Mid-Ohio test event.
The 27-year-old was treated for the injury at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio and, according to IndyCar.com, he will recieve a full medical re-evaluation by an Indianapolis-based specialist on Friday to see if he'll be healthy enough to race in the upcoming Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.
Kimball currently sits in a tie for 13th place with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Takuma Sato in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series standings. His best result this season was a second-place finish at the Honda Indy Toronto.
