The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has scheduled a formal hearing June 20 into charges laid against the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team and the series tire supplier, Pirelli, after apparent illegal tire tests in May.
The test was brought to FIA attention by Red Bill Racing and Ferrari after learning that both Mercedes’ 2013 cars were used in a three day tire test in Barcelona. FIA rules stipulate current cars may not be used for testing of any sort outside of pre-determined dates.
Reports also indicate Mercedes’ current driver lineup conducted the tests, each using blank helmets as opposed to regular race gear.
Stay tuned as the story develops.
