After claiming the fastest lap in practice, Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi took both pole positions at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit ahead of the British Formula 3 weekend. His top time of 2:15.542 was two-tenths faster than teammates Jordan King (2:15.865) and Jann Mardenborough (2:15.972).
The Carlin Racing drivers will start the both races in the top three spots on Friday and Saturday.
Latifi, who also drives in the top-level F3 Euro Championship, currently sits sixth in the standings behind King (fourth), and in front of Mardenborough (eighth). The Carlin team has been home to future F1 drivers including Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne.
"I confused myself with that lap, I didn't realize I was in the 15s with my time. I thought I was in the 16s and I was frustrated,” Latifi said. “It's great to get a pole position, we have really good pace here this weekend and I' m confident of having a good first race. It was amazing result for the team. A 1-2-3 for both races is huge."
Following the F3 races, his teammate Mardenborough continues a busy weekend at the circuit, joining the Nissan GT Academy team to drive the GT-R GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series 24 Hours of Spa from Saturday to Sunday.
The first race is tomorrow at 10:10 a.m. (CET), with the second race going green Saturday at 11:50 a.m. (CET) before the 24 Hours of Spa. Live coverage of both races can be found at www.formula3.co/calendar/tv-times, and tweeted live at @BritishF3.
