Today, the Automotive Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC) picked the Porsche Macan S and 911 Turbo S as best in their respective “SUV - CUV (over $60k)” and “Prestige – Performance (over $75k)” categories for 2015.

“We are delighted that the Canadian Car of the Year panel recognized the all-new Macan and 911 Turbo as outstanding choices in their category,” said Alexander Pollich, President & CEO of Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. “These vehicles offer a winning combination of attributes ranging from top-level performance and incredible efficiency to surprising practicality that have always been hallmarks of the brand.”

Each year, new vehicles meeting pre-determined criteria are entered in various categories. Winners from each category are announced by AJAC after their annual competition held in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Each entry faced its rivals during the intensive week-long testing performed by a panel of members chosen by the association.

In addition to the 2015 Macan S, this year’s competitors in the category were the GMC Yukon XL Denali and the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC.

Launched in May, the Macan S proposes standard all-wheel drive mated to a powerful yet efficient twin turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 engine producing 340 hp.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h can be achieved in as little as 5.4 seconds. Fuel consumption is as low as 10.3 L/ per 100 km on the highway, according to Transport Canada 2015 figures. The Macan S is offered at a starting price of $54,300.

Similarly to the Macan S, the 911 Turbo S faced its rivals during the intensive testing. Joining the 911 Turbo S on this year’s “Prestige – Performance (over $75k)” category entry list were: the BMW M4, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, and the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe. Since its introduction to the world 40 years ago, the turbocharged version of the 911 has continued to entice automotive enthusiasts with its unique blend of ultra-high performance potential, efficiency, style, and practicality.

Now in its seventh generation, the newest 911 Turbo S offers advanced technologies such as an active aerodynamic system and active all-wheel drive. Under the rear lid, you find a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces 560 hp. The 0-100 km/h acceleration can be accomplished in 3.1 seconds. All feature direct fuel injection and an auto start/stop system which help this ultimate sports car achieve fuel economy as low as 9.6 L/100 km according to the new 2015 Transport Canada highway figures. The 2015 911 Turbo S is priced starting at $208,500.

With these nods, the 911 Turbo S and Macan S are now eligible for the “2015 Canadian Car of the Year” and “2015 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year” titles, respectively. Each qualifying category winner from this year’s competition will vie to win one of the coveted awards. The recipient of this distinction will be announced during a ceremony at the 2015 Canadian International Auto Show in February.
