European demand for Ford’s new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has required the company to increase production in its German facility by double, for as many as 200,000 engines in 2014.
Currently, the 1.0-litre powerplant makes up as much as 44 per cent of installations in the B-MAX, 32 per cent in the Focus, 26 per cent in the Fiesta, and 24 per cent for the C-Max overseas. The company shifted towards direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable-valve timing and critical balancing to optimize performance on the odd-numbered, three-cylinder engine. Ford Europe also plans to increase sales of its entire EcoBoost engine range from 141,000 units in 2011 to 480,000 by 2015.
