Photo by Dan Boyd/American Le Mans SeriesWe’ve chronicled the love affair most – if not all – of the drivers in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón have with Road America. At the top of the list has to be Bruno Junqueira, JaguarRSR’s star Brazilian. He will drive at Road America for the first time since 2007 at this weekend’s Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase.

“It’s my favorite track in North America – maybe in the world,” enthused Junqueira. “When I first looked at the ALMS calendar, I circled this date.”

Who could blame him? Junqueira won two races  - including his first victory in North America - and two pole positions in Champ Car at the circuit. In six open-wheel races at Road America, he finished third or better four times. Only once did he finish outside the top 10. But this year provides a new challenge at the four-mile, 14-turn circuit.

“It’s going to be the first time at Elkhart Lake for me with a GT car,” said Junqueira, who will team with Kenny Wilden in a Jaguar XKR GT. “It’s a great car to drive with the long straights, and long, fast corners. The Jaguar is very fast on the straights and I think it will be great for us.”

Junqueira is quick to point out the progress the Paul Gentilozzi-owned team has made on the Jaguar racer since the start of the season – particularly on the aero side and reliability. The latter is a key point in any ALMS race, especially one as tough as four hours at Road America.

So this will be OK,” he said. “ It’s a different G-load (at Road America) than what you would expect. This is more demanding on you physically than oval racing. Thank goodness I have such a good teammate in Kenny. I think we have the chance to do very well.”

Junqueira and the rest of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón are set for this weekend’s Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase - scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 20 with ABC airing the race at 4:30 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT) on Sunday, August 21. Live video coverage on race day will be available at 3:45 p.m. ET on ESPN3.com in the US, and americanlemans.com for international viewers. Canadian fans may also watch live coverage on Rogers Sportsnet, as can European audiences on MotorsTV. Worldwide radio coverage will be available on American Le Mans Radio at www.americanlemans.com.
