Canadian Motor Speedway, Canada's first professional 1.6 km (one mile) banked oval and 4.2 km road course, was given the green light for construction today. The decision comes three months after an appeal by the Ontario Municipal Board against the proposed construction. Fort Erie Mayor Doug Martin was informed of the decision this morning, meaning construction will move ahead on the 65,000 seat facility as soon as possible.
The $150 million raceway will be situated on 820 acres in Fort Erie, accessible by the Queen Elizabeth Highway (QEW) and located close to hotels and various ammenities. The grounds will include an eco park, bike paths and camping grounds, as well as a concert amphitheatre and NHL-specification outdoor rink.
