Preparations for the 2011 Honda Indy Toronto shifted into high gear on Wednesday as construction of the 2.284 kilometre (1.755 mile), 11 turn temporary street circuit officially began.
This year’s track build falls on the heels of a major investment announced last year, which includes a contribution of $772,000 from FedDev Ontario.
On hand to mark the occasion were officials representing title sponsor Honda Canada, event owners Green Savoree Toronto, and several drivers who will be competing in the Honda Indy Toronto next month, including:
James Hinchcliffe, IZOD IndyCar Series
JR Fitzpatrick, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
Richard Boake, Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship
Robert Herjavec (Dragons’ Den), Ferrari Challenge
The 2011 Honda Indy Toronto (July 8-10) will celebrate 25 years of racing on the streets of Toronto with a first-class line up of racing, featuring the highest levels of Indy, stock, touring and, for the first time, exotic car racing. For more visit www.hondaindytoronto.com
