Lazarre wins

The Canadian Tire Motorsport Park played host to the opening two rounds of the Toyo Tires F1600 championship, and www.doordoctor.com racer Jesse Lazare was using the event as a tune up for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.

“After being with doordoctor.com in the USF2000 series this year, it is good to get back to Canada and get ready for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. I am really focused on a good run in the Britain West Van Diemen this weekend,” Jesse Lazare said.

In race one on Saturday, Lazare, from second on the grid held the lead and was making a break when a mechanical problem ended his race. “That was a tough one to take,” Lazare said. “We were quick, it just ended bad.”

Sunday brought new hope, but Lazare was slowed in qualifying by a stacked grid. Other teams had brought in stars that were on the same program as Lazare – getting ready for Montreal.

From third on the grid, Lazare was immediately on the attack, taking the lead. After a full course yellow, Lazare – with his hands full – was able to execute a great pass on the last lap to take the win.

“I just had to go for it,” Lazare said. “This was a talented field of drivers, and so I had to work very hard for this win. Thanks to David Clubine and the whole team for all the hard work on the weekend.”
