Maserati plans to unveil its new Ghibli sedan later this month at the Shanghai Motor Show, as the company plans to increase production to sell as many as 50,000 cars per year. Styling for the new Italian entry-level sedan will follow the company's current trends, while being slightly sportier than its larger Quattroporte sibling. 

The new platform will be available with turbocharged V6 and V8 engines, an eight speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or Q4 all-wheel drive systems. For those looking for a gasoline alternative, a new 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine is also available as a Maserati first. 

The Ghibli will use the same platform used under Chrysler's 300, as well as the Dodge Charger and Challenger. It marks the first foray for Maserati into the affordable-luxury sedan bracket in a package that still offers premium features and performance. Pricing has yet to be announced, but expect it to compete with the Audi A6 and A7s of the world, around the $65 to $70,000 mark.
