BMW launched its all-new X4 sport utility vehicle at Geneva, showcasing the brand's direction toward performance-oriented driving throughout its lineup. Like its new 2- and 4-Series cars, the X4 bridges the gap for customers wanting something sportier than the X3, but smaller than the X5 or X6.

Mechanically speaking, the new model shares many similarities with the X3 with a sport-tuned ride. When the new model is released later this year, BMW will offer two seperate powertrains, a 2.0-litre inline-four with 240 horsepower, and an xDrive35i with 300 hp. Both models feature BMW's new eight-speed automatic transmission as well as all-wheel-drive.

When compared to the X3, this X4 has a more distinct coupe-like roofline, which underlines its sporting character. The car sits lower by 1.5 inches as well, and features large air intakes which are positioned on the outer edges of the front facia, giving the X4 a more muscular appearance.

The new X4 was officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week, and will also be on display at the New York Auto Show this April.
