The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel hit the road yeserday in an attempt to cross Canada, from Vancouver to Halifax, using the least amount of diesel fuel. The adventure-seeking, writer, husband-wife team of Garry Sowerby and Lisa Calvi will be navigating the Cruze Diesel for the next 10 days, and over 6,000 kms, along the Trans-Canada highway in an attempt to set that record.
“I’ll be trapped in the car with my husband, Garry Sowerby, for 6,000 kilometres,” said Lisa Calvi. “Over the next ten days, we will be feather-footing our way from Vancouver to Halifax, driving the speed limit – attempting to set a new record for lowest fuel consumption. Our goal is to use the least amount of fuel on a cross-Canada drive. We want to set a record that will be difficult for someone else to beat.”
The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel was chosen for this adventure for its industry best 4.2 L/100km highway fuel consumption – better than any non-hybrid passenger car in Canada. The Cruze also offers a segment leading 151 horsepower and 264 lb.-ft of torque providing spirited performance and the durability diesel owners value around the globe.
With a starting price of just $24,945, plus $1,550 destination charge, the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel is a better value than a similarly equipped VW Jetta TDI automatic. Compared with Jetta, the Cruze Diesel offers standard equipment including the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, larger 17-inch alloy wheels, leather-appointed seating, and a longer five-year 160,000-kilometre powertrain limited warranty.
