The People Behind the Success
Year after year when you attend the same events sometimes you wonder how the place is doing it. You know that the staff is excellent but what makes it successful?

For a start, there are Steve and Diane Walker. We call Steve “Doc.” Not only does he race on a BMW bike but they also sponsor a class called Westlake Medical Centre which they own. To top it off, they have one of the best Paddock areas. Jim Proulx is a friend I met at Shannonville around 1995. I’ve watched Jim progress from being an amateur to a pro. Jim raced as a privateer until last year when the Thompsons sponsored him with a Buell ride in the Canadian Thunder Class. Last year Jim was the Canadian ST Champion and finished with 360 points.
“For many years I have been going to
Race events at Shannonville. Over the
years I’ve met a group of people that
make the motorcycle racing there tick.”
Who could forget Dan Durckovic? It seems as though Dan is always working on his bike. He is constantly investing in the latest technology for his bike while trying to improve his ride. Dan can be found on his Honda in the RACE Series. Last year he was 8th in the PRO SUPERBIKE. Michael Ferreira is a BMW Factory rider in the Canadian Thunder Class. Last year he was fourth in final points. Dan Thompson competes at both Shannonville and in the Canadian ST Class in the Thunder. Last year he was fourth in ST Standings riding a Buell.
So as you can see, this group comes from all over Ontario with different goals anc challenges, l but you can always find them working together, sorting through issues and offering suggestions. Best of all, I always feel welcome in their area any time of the day.
