Humber College, located in Toronto’s west end (near Hwy. 427 and Finch Ave. W.) has been in the rider training business since 1984 and is among the largest single site motorcycle rider training schools in the world. Humber really is the cliché for everything motorcycle with courses for the absolute beginner, (Basic Rider) to programs for full licencing upgrades (M2 Exit) to a refresher course for those getting back into the saddle, a Pro Rider program to really uplift the street skills and maintenance courses for those wanting to twist a wrench for themselves.

Whether it’s street riding, off road riding, race track or climbing treacherous hills, the origin of this range of expertise evolves from the same ancestor. We have all learned to ride through some form of motorcycle rider training. Regardless of where we end up in the wonderful world of motorcycling, our lineage can all be traced back to this one place of origin.

There is a copious range of variety within our chosen activity and an even a greater collection of skill within each of the subsets. At one point or another, we all started with a shared enthusiasm for two wheels, a throttle and an engine we could see. Remember the excitement the very first time you let out the clutch while you gently rolled on the throttle? Years ago, some of us learned from our brother, a buddy or even our brother’s buddy. Today our method of learning has advanced to where most take part in more formal rider training programs such those offered by Humber College.

Humber College has been training new riders, licencing and improving skills since 1984. Today, nearly 4,000 students roll across our parking lots and through our communities seeking some form of achievement to promote a stronger sense of traffic management and self awareness when riding. Humber focuses on individual success. At Humber we believe that your success is our success regardless of how each individual defines it.

Rider training could be regarded as two distinct paths that must work in harmony to realize accomplishment. The tangible aspects or rider training taught, are controls, balance and braking, turning, shifting, slow speed manoeuvres and collision avoidance techniques. There are two days devoted to developing and enhancing these areas. The secondary, and arguably the more significant learning outcomes are the intangibles; Attitude, confidence and respect.
