New Delhi has been left off the 2014 Formula One calendar amid scheduling difficulties between F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and race promoter Jaypee. Ecclestone originally planned to slot the race in the early part of the year, but gave in to requests to host the date in October – currently between the Japanese and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.
The addition of Russia on the calendar is presumed to be the reason for the decision, with the race taking place at the new 5.872-km circuit in Sochi.
To honour the original five-year deal with Jaypee, Ecclestone has agreed to include India early on the 2015 calendar, and extend the arrangement into 2016. Calendar dates will be confirmed later this year.
