BMW 4 Series Gran CoupeBMW has today announced a new Gran Coupe version of the 4 Series, reintroducing four doors to the new model in BMW’s lineup. Although this may seem confusing, since the purpose of the new 4 Series was to separate the coupe from the sedan, we are delighted to find the car looks great.

The Gran Coupe holds many differences from the 3 Series counterpart, being both longer and wider than the 3 Series by half an inch, while also shorter in height by roughly an inch and a half. These changes in dimensions give the new 4 Series Gran Coupe a more sleeker appearance, especially since the overall stance is lower as well.

BMW 4 Series Gran CoupeThe 4 Series Gran Coupe is more versatile too, since it has a real hatchback with rear folding seats. The volume of the trunk is 480 liters, but when the rear seats are folded down the load capacity increases to 1,300 liters, incredible for this type of car. The stretched roofline and frameless doors give the car the silhouette of a coupe, which makes the 4-door BMW all the more appealing to many buyers.

The powertrains remain unchanged from the rest of the 3/4 Series lineup, both the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and the 3.0-liter turbo-six are present with 240 hp/ 255 lb-ft of torque and 300 hp/ 300 lb-ft, respectively. All three BMW trims, Luxury, Sport, and M Sport can be fitted, as well as an adaptive M suspension and variable sport steering.

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will officially debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
