Celebrating 30 years since the launch of Audi’s legendary quattro, the German manufacturer released images of it’s newest concept, the Audi Sport quattro Concept, which will see the stage in Frankfurt early this month.

The car uses motor sport-inspired design and industry-leading plug-in hybrid technology to convey Audi’s principles of eye-catching looks and fuel efficiency. Combined, the gas-electric powertrain can produce 700 hp using a miniscule 2.5L/100 km of fuel while still achieving a hair-raising climb to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

The exterior uses tightly packed bodywork to minimize length and width overhangs to maximize handling and minimize weight. The wheelbase measures 109.61 inches, while the overall length is 181.18 inches. Width is 77.32 inches and the car sits only 54.57-inches tall, keeping a low center of gravity to optimize drag and reduce bodyroll.

Using a four-cylinder twin-turbo V8, the engine itself outputs 560 horsepower and 516.29 ft-lb of torque and makes use of the cylinder on demand (COD) system to deactivate four cylinders to maximize efficiency. The disc-shaped electric motor produces approximately 147 horsepower and 295 ft-lb of torque, charged via an Audi wall box. Impressively, the Audi Sport quattro concept can operate in EV (electric-only) mode and cover up to 50 km on electric power alone.
