A dissertation on the future of energy opened the gates of Ferrari to ten students of the Engineering Faculty of the Technical University of Crete, winners of the 2013 Shell Student Energy Challenge. Run by Scuderia Ferrari's long term technical partner and aimed at young engineers and scientists from America, Europe and Asia, the competition, in collaboration with National Geographic, asked students to come up with an infographic on the future of energy on a planet in which natural resources are diminishing through increased demand.
The winners of the European section were chosen by a committee of experts and university academics and along with a cash prize they also got the chance to visit the Maranello factory and meet David Saltars, the Scuderia's head of engine development. Salters spent a long time with them, giving them the opportunity to understand how research into cutting edge technology, essential to Ferrari's development programme, is at the heart of the technical relationship with Shell.
