RSR podiumAfter a successful 2012 together that included a win at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Owen Trinkler and Corey Fergus will once again co-drive the No. 197 RSR Motorsports Honda Civic Si in Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in 2013.

Trinkler and Fergus first teamed up as co-drivers during round four of the 2012 season where RSR Motorsports was hoping to win for the third year in a row. Not only did Trinkler and Fergus deliver, but Fergus also earned the pole.

Not only was it the first series pole for Fergus, but it was only his fourth race in Grand-Am competition. Now that his rookie season is behind him, Fergus has set even higher goals for 2013.

“I’m really excited to be back with RSR, especially in a Honda,” says the 24-year-old. “Being in the series for a year, you learn so much. I learned more in one year of Grand-Am than in the 11 years I raced prior to that. Grand-Am brings out the best in you and I’m really excited to come back this year with everything I have learned. We’ve got a great team and we have to look at the championship.”

“We’ve got some unfinished business from last season, and we want to go for the championship,” agrees Trinkler. “I’m really excited about another season with Corey. We know each other’s strengths and can really lean on each other.”

“We’re excited to have Corey returning to RSR Motorsports,” says team owner Randall Smalley. “He had a great season last year and now it’s time to capitalize on that. He and Owen have experience on the team and as co-drivers, so they will be moving forward in the new season.”

Trinkler is also Team Manager for RSR Motorsports, and he has been busy with off-season testing as the team completes its transition to Hondas. RSR has been building on what it's learned with two Hondas in 2012, and will go into Daytona Test Days in January with the focus on fine-tuning setups.

“Last year was a transition, and we were carrying two differing makes of car. Now, we’re focused on the Hondas so I think we’ll really be able to move forward. I’m excited about having a long relationship with Honda, and we feel like we can be competitive in the manufacturer’s championship on Honda’s behalf,” Trinkler says. In between tests, Trinkler found time to run in the Ragnar Relay Series race from Chattanooga to Nashville and back, opting for a different style of racing.

Fergus spends his off-seasons on the slopes as a ski instructor in Aspen, Colorado. It’s an annual tradition for him, and one that keeps him in shape for the racing season. As for keeping his racing skills sharp, Fergus says, “I keep in tune with the tracks we visit by using iRacing to practice. It’s a way to train for upcoming races and keep everything on my mind, even during ski season. That way, I’ll be ready to go when I show up at Daytona.”

With the championship on their minds, Trinkler and Fergus are both ready to go as they prepare for their 2013 season with RSR Motorsports.

RSR Motorsports will be making additional announcements about its 2013 driver line-up as the team prepares for the Daytona Test Days. Stay up to date with the team online at RSRMotorsports.com and interact at www.facebook.com/RSRMotorports.
