Last week we showed you some mysterious images of the BMW/Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe, and today we bring you the final version of the pair’s design concept.
The newest creation from Pininfarina – the design house responsible for iconic models that include the Ferrari 458, F12, Testarossa and 250 GT – is a special one-off model aimed at pure luxury and elegance.
The car features an Italian wool headliner, high-grade leather and ultra-rare kauri wood accents, aged 48,000 years and cut from a single piece, specially selected by Italian timber experts.
“The result of this cooperative venture is far greater than the sum of its parts,” says Fabio Filippini, Head of Design at Pininfarina. “When two such tradition-rich and experienced brands join forces to turn a vision into reality, something utterly new and exciting emerges. From start to finish, this project was defined by a mutual respect for the identity of the other company.”
What the Gran Lusso gives BMW is essentially an outsider’s viewpoint of the potential for future BMW designs, resembling something of a 7-series coupe with GT characteristics. Whether we see something similar (in coupe or sedan form), remains to be seen.
